STATEMENT OF FAITH

Our faith in Jesus Christ is core to who we are.

As active members of Lighthouse Community Church in Torrance, California, we gladly hold to our church’s Statement of Faith. OakHaven Ministries is not a church, so obviously some aspects of Lighthouse’s statement of faith do not directly carry over (e.g. OakHaven will not be administering the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper or baptism), but it does express our ministry’s theological stance in these foundational doctrines of the faith.

In the practical outworking of the ministry of OakHaven, the doctrines we will reference most often are the sufficiency of Scripture, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the significance of the church in the ongoing process of sanctification.

  • We believe biblical counseling is the way that a local body of believers cares for one another in their suffering and struggle with sin, using the sufficient Word of God to counsel, encourage, instruct, comfort, and correct.

  • The Holy Spirit is both the agent of change in the heart of the believer in need and the source of empowerment and wisdom for the brother or sister coming alongside to provide effective personal ministry.

  • Likewise, the process of spiritual formation is at its core the Holy Spirit forming a believer’s heart more and more into the likeness of Christ through the ordinary means of grace of Word and prayer, community and communion.

  • Our passion to provide refreshment and equipping, especially for ministry leaders, is focused on building up local bodies of believers (churches) to thrive and endure in effective, fruitful ministry, so that eventually a parachurch ministry like ours would not even be needed.
